seventeen weeks out

official workouts/training program for san antonio won't really begin until mid-august--about 12 weeks out. for the next few weeks, my goal is to build up my mileage and hopefully be around 60 comfortably before that time. i'd also like to begin some simple core work now so it is more of a habit in a few weeks! i know this was definitely something i can improve upon from last time.

seventeen weeks out

7.20 - big river xc camp started today. i ran with the kids for a total of 6 miles. felt a little rusty, but to be expected after two weeks of mostly down time. still running in my old trance. i think i need to replace them!

7.21 - back at camp. the kids were doing a tempo run so i warmed up with them, ran back and forth over the course of 3 miles and then ran back with them. I'm only calling it 5, but may have been a bit more. actually felt pretty good today.

7.22 - got up before camp and ran with kris. got in 5 with her. today i can really tell that i need new shoes. the past two days i've been off the sidewalks running in queeny park and haven't noticed as much. later at camp, i warmed up with the kids, ran with the shortest group and then went with three other girls for an extra mile, coming to what i'm calling 4 (it was maybe a bit more). that gives me 9 on the day. i also did some core work with the campers.

7.23 - ran before camp again with kris, same loop for 5 miles. i knew today at camp i wouldn't have much opportunity to run because it was scavenger hunt day! the kids had a lot of fun, and i think so did the counselors. when we got back i did some core work with the campers. no additional run with the kids. i will note that i can no longer run in the shoes i have. my legs are just aching!!! i honestly don't know how many miles i have on these shoes. i got them in april but wasn't running much then. i did start to pick it up quite a bit through may, june and now july so i'm sure they've got at least 400 miles on them. you'd think since i work at a running store it i wouldn't wait this long...

7.24 - ran with kris this morning in NEW shoes! i'm back to my tried and true mizuno inspire's. i'll stick with these for now, but i may start to incorporate another shoe that i will alternate with this time around. we'll see.
this morning we mixed it up from our normal run where we meet in francis park. today we met along mardel and ran through the hill. it was really nice to have a change of scenery. on top of that, it gave me a chance to scope out some of those great little italian restaurants! it was very humid this morning, but overall a nice run. kris didn't have to be into work until 9 so we took advantage and ran a little longer getting in 7 for the day. much better being in a new pair of shoes!

7.25 - ran with kris again this morning. i just went 5, she added a little more. i didn't want to over do it as this is my first week back running consistently and i had that longer day in the middle there. felt pretty good.

7.26 - long run morning at forest park. i had wanted to do 12 miles. i got started with julie, cj, andrew and some others. they started out maybe a little too fast for me, but i tried to hang because i didn't want to run by myself. we headed out of the park after about 2 miles and downtown. i finally got really dropped by 3.5 miles. at this point my left leg was really bothering me, everywhere. part of me was just feeling sorry for myself probably from the exhaustion of the long work days (yesterday had been my 9th day in a row at the store and/or camp) and i am still feeling behind on sleep from all the traveling we've been doing lately. my butt muscle almost felt like it was cramping, then that all too familiar IT band tightness began. i scrapped the idea of running 12 and turned around at 5 miles to make it 10. i'm glad i did because by the time i got back into the park i was really hurting. when i got back home i spent some time on the foam roller and did some self massage on my foot. later ben worked on my left foot a little more and then i iced it. i hope that the pf isn't coming back. i did up my mileage pretty quickly considering the prior two weeks were down time. in retrospect i should have just kept it easy and maybe a little shorter today, but there is obviously nothing i can do about that now. i will probably try to take it easy tomorrow rather than going the long loop at the group run and again do some icing and foam rolling. i will just have to take it a day at a time, trying not to get discouraged....

total weekly mileage: 47 miles
shoes: trance = too many miles!, inspire = 22 miles
