the Nursery...take one

My two wonderful friends from college, Leah and Suzanne, came in town this weekend to visit and help with the nursery. Boy did I put them to work!!

Remember the room before?

First we looked at some bedding options to help determine a palate for the walls.
For the main color of the room, we chose Jalapeno Jelly (Valspar Paint):

The for two accent colors, we chose Swim (Valspar Paint) and Caramel Cream (Valspar Paint). Look at how clever my two friends are!! (see the full photo album the bottom for the step-by-step progression of this flower project)

Project #2 was the dresser we found at the Salvation Army. It was a nice solid piece but did have some flaws that made it worth trying to redo the dresser.
BEFORE:

We tried to use some Formby's Furniture Refinisher but we seemed to make it worse rather than better. On to plan #2, sand it down and re-stain it.
Here's a pic of the progression....the left side has stain, the right is the front of the drawer, just sanded down:

Finally, the final project....room painted green, cute flowers painted on the wall, a couple of old wooden frames we painted in the same accent colors that will eventually be hung on the wall, and the finished dresser!!

So I guess you could say we had a busy weekend!! Soon to come will be the addition of some wall art, the crib and I'm on the look out for a good rocker (one that is cute AND practical...any suggestions?) Stay tuned.....and in the meantime, take a look at the photo gallery to see the entire progression and some more close up shots:
